Planning and Zoning to Finish Work on Frac Sand Ordinance

The Winneshiek County Protectors are pleased to report that the County Planning and Zoning Commission has proposed changes in the current land use ordinance which will protect our bluffs, streams, roads and bridges from the frac sand mining rush.

You can find the ordinance on the Winneshiek County web site at: www.winneshiekcounty.org,   the homepage’s heading, “In the spotlight,” and under it is a title, “Proposed Ordinance V 2015.”  Click on it and you’ll get the PDF of the whole ordinance including the pages relevant to frac sand (“Chapter 713 Excavation and Mining of Industrial Minerals” Pages 106-117).

The P & Z commission’s public hearing is Tuesday, September 8, 2015, in the Court House at 7:30 pm.  This hearing is a very important step in our long process; we hope you can attend to show support.  The P+Z has spent months crafting a strong ordinance so if you support their good work please come and express your support for the ordinance.  For more information, contact Lyle Otte at 563-382-3137.
