County Supervisors Extend the Moratorium!

On September 29th the Board of Supervisors voted to extend the current moratorium on frac sand mining permits to October 2015.  This extension of the moratorium will allow the Iowa Initiative on Sustainable Communities enough time to complete public health and economic studies on frac sand mining that will be invaluable to the county while deciding on how best to protect our natural resources while allowing economic development.  If the moratorium had not been extended these studies would not have been ready before the county would have had to pass ordinances that regulate this completely new type of mining in Winneshiek County.
