On Tuesday, May 14th, the Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on the issue of frac sand mining in Winneshiek County. Thanks to an incredible showing by concerned citizens, the commission voted to recommend an 18-month moratorium on frac sand mining. The recommendation was presented to the Board of Supervisors on Monday, May 20. Stay tuned for more information, including the date of the Board of Supervisor’s public hearing.
